Study Stakeholder Group
In the early months of the study, the District began its public involvement efforts by communicating with community organizations with an expressed level of interest in the study area. Generally, these representatives have been interested in active involvement and are committed to staying informed about the study basis through participation in frequent and regular briefings.

These representatives of the community include business owners, business associations, quality of life organizations and/or government agencies including:

  • Citizens Environmental Coalition
  • City of Houston Parks & Recreation Department
  • Energy Corridor Management District
  • Harris County Flood Control District Task Force
  • Houston Audubon Society

  • The University of Houston-Downtown

  • White Oak Bayou Association
Working Together
The briefing sessions with representatives have included educational topics such as background information on a Corps of Engineers federal study and planning process; types of flood damage reduction measures; federal project funding economics; ecosystem restoration and environmental enhancements in addition to updates on the engineering, economics and environmental data collections for the study.

These representatives have provided the District with ongoing support of the study and valuable input on historical and current issues in the area.

During the first phase of the study, the representatives actively assisted the District in the development of goals, objectives and constraints that will be used to evaluate components and select a recommended plan for flood damage reduction and ecosystem restoration.
