District Partnering in "Charting the Course"

To educate citizens about the many facets of Galveston Bay, including the environment, economics and surrounding communities, the Galveston Bay Estuary Program will host a series of open houses entitled "Charting the Course to 2015" beginning Feb. 25 through April 2 in the Houston-Galveston region.
The Estuary Program and its partners, which include the Harris County Flood Control District, want area citizens to play an active role in shaping Galveston Bay, as it affects this region's economy, quality of life and health, and to protect this national treasure.
The Estuary Program is a non-regulatory program administered by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and charged with preserving Galveston Bay for future generations. By implementing The Galveston Bay Plan -- a 20-year, science-based plan designed to protect and restore the bay - the Estuary Program and its partners have made many accomplishments, including protecting and restoring 8,000 acres of wetlands and coastal habitats, and developing stormwater management practices to protect water quality.
The series of seven "Charting the Course to 2015" open houses is the Estuary Program's latest outreach to educate the public and encourage active participation.
