Buffalo Bayou's Sabine-To-Bagby Promenade Receives Award

November 14, 2006
The Harris County Flood Control District, along with partners Buffalo Bayou Partnership, City of Houston Public Works & Engineering Department, and the Texas Department of Transportation, received a Keep Houston Beautiful - Mayor's Proud Partners Award for the Buffalo Bayou Sabine-To-Bagby Promenade.

Downtown Beautified and Amenities Abound
The Sabine-To-Bagby Promenade is a new 23-acre segment to the Buffalo Bayou Walk near downtown Houston. The improvements include gently sloping banks to the water's edge, twelve new street-to-bayou entryways, dramatic artistic lighting, lush native landscaping, way finding and interpretive language. Other amenities to the park include a pedestrian bridge joining the north and south sides of the bayou, hike and bike trails and bayou-themed public artwork.

Nightview of the Sabine-To-Bagby Promenade, bathed in blue light, signifying the new moon phase.

The unique lighting changes from white to blue and back again in conjunction with the lunar cycle. Stainless steel boat sculptures grace five of the twelve street-to-bayou entrances, and 300,000 plants, including 600 new trees, have been added.
