2020-2021 Planting Season
During the 2020-21 tree planting season, which runs from October 2020 through March 2021, the Flood Control District planted 15,218 native trees on multiple sites around Harris County. Tree species included loblolly pine, bald cypress, pecan, sycamore, water oak and others.
Planting sites included:
- 4,751 trees planted at the Kuykendahl Stormwater Detention Basin, formally identified as HCFCD Unit P545-01-00, near Kuykendahl Road and Ella Boulevard
- 3,537 trees planted along Langham Creek, formally identified as HCFCD Unit U100-00-00, from upstream of Fry Road to Greenhouse Road
- 2,360 trees planted at the Aldine Westfield Stormwater Detention Basin, formally identified as HCFCD Unit P500-04-00, near Aldine-Westfield Road in the Greens Bayou watershed
- 1,900 trees planted along Faulkey Gully, formally identified as HCFCD Unit K142-00-00, from Spring Cypress Road to the gully’s confluence with Cypress Creek, HCFCD Unit K100-00-00
- 593 trees planted at the stormwater detention basin formally identified as HCFCD Unit K524-03-00, near Spring Cypress Road in the Cypress Creek watershed
- 1,200 trees planted at the Glen Forest Stormwater Detention Basin, formally identified as HCFCD Unit P500-08-00, on Interstate Highway 45 at Knobcrest Drive in the Greens Bayou watershed
- 517 trees planted along Dry Creek, a tributary of Cypress Creek formally identified as HCFCD Unit K145-00-00, from Spring Cypress Road to the K545-03-00 stormwater detention basin
- 336 trees planted at the stormwater detention basin formally identified as HCFCD Unit D500-10-00, near South Post Oak Road and South Braeswood Boulevard in the Brays Bayou watershed
- 24 trees planted on the South Braeswood Boulevard esplanade east of the Hillcroft Avenue intersection in the Brays Bayou watershed.
