In an effort to keep you informed about the Harris County Flood Control District’s continuing maintenance efforts in the Cypress Creek watershed, we want to notify you about upcoming major maintenance activities in your area. In December 2023, the Flood Control District will begin construction on Batch 4 of the Major Maintenance of Cypress Creek and its Tributaries project.
The Major Maintenance of Cypress Creek and its Tributaries project will help to restore channel conveyance capacity in several areas within the Cypress Creek watershed. Batch 4 is comprised of a total of approximately four linear miles across eight channels. An estimated 55,000 tons of crushed concrete “riprap” material is expected to be integrated to help stabilize the channels, and 5,500 linear feet of storm sewer outfall conduits have been identified to be replaced. Sediment deposited from previous heavy rainfall events will also be removed from the channels.
Multiple construction crews will be working on various project sites simultaneously. The timeframe for when crews will be working at each site in Batch 4 has not been fully determined and can change at the contractor’s discretion.
This major maintenance project is a Community Input project and is being funded by the 2018 HCFCD Bond Program under the Bond ID CI-012. The project is being constructed in batches that include multiple project sites throughout the Cypress Creek watershed. Batches 1 and 2 were completed ahead of schedule in late 2022. Construction on Batch 3 began in summer 2022 and is expected to be completed in summer 2024.
