HOUSTON, TX - On March 23, 2022 - Earmarked funding by Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher to fund stormwater detention basin in Brays Bayou.
On March 23, 2022, the Harris County Flood Control District attended an event at the site of the Meyergrove Stormwater Detention Basin in Brays Bayou to celebrate $9.95 million in federal funding for the project. The funding was allocated through the FY22 government spending bill and goes toward a project in Congresswoman Lizzie Fletcher’s district (TX-07).
The partner funds will be used for the design and construction of the 7.5-acre stormwater detention basin located near the intersection of Braeswood Drive and Interstate Highway 610. Alongside Harris County Flood Control District Executive Director Dr. Tina Petersen and Congresswoman Fletcher were Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and Houston City Council members Abbie Kamin, David Robinson and Sallie Alcorn.
“This community has been impacted by a number of serious flood events over the last decade, and this project will be able to provide much-needed flood mitigation to residents,” said Petersen. “We are grateful for Congresswoman Fletcher delivering these funds and for all of our federal partners advocating for these critical efforts in D.C. on behalf of Harris County.”
The Meyergrove Stormwater Detention Basin is currently in the design stage of the project lifecycle. Once final design is approved and complete, construction is anticipated to start in Fall 2022 and be completed by Spring 2023.
