Yesterday, Harris County voters approved Flood Control District Proposition A, which will generate additional funding for maintenance and operations of flood mitigation infrastructure. We are grateful for the thoughtful decision by voters from across the county to support the dedicated tax rate proposition. Those decisions will allow the Flood Control District to address deferred maintenance of infrastructure and aging systems. The resulting funding will significantly reduce our infrastructure replacement lifecycle from 270 years to 67 years, providing for a safer, more resilient Harris County for generations to come.
The dedicated resources from Proposition A will aide in expediting the maintenance of aging infrastructure, address deferred maintenance projects, provide additional responsive maintenance teams, and allow for investments in sustainable solutions. Ultimately, we are improving our ability to help protect lives and property across Harris County, while expanding the ability to deliver much needed maintenance work to ensure our flood control network is ready for the next storm.
As we work to develop and implement an expanded maintenance program, we look forward to providing updates on progress made possible through this investment. We remain committed and accountable to delivering an efficient maintenance and operations program.
Together, we are building a safer future for Harris County.
